Launch!

We finally did it! ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽŠ

We started working on this game almost 4 months ago, squeezing in whatever time we could in between life and work. Our goal from the start was to make something that we like, and that we could use to train skills we don't usually use during our regular work. It's been a crazy ride with lot's of long nights and busy weekends but it was worth it.

Making a puzzle game proved to be an interesting challenge, while we originally thought that making hard levels will be difficult, playtests with friends and family soon showed us that the opposite is true ๐Ÿ˜…Turns out is very hard to get into someone else's brain-space, so designing easier levels proved to be a bigger challenge.

All the art you see in-game including fonts has been hand-drawn by our designer on an e-paper tablet, exported and processed. The wobbly animations are a fortunate side-effect of the hand-drawing, which was an immediate sign for us to take the freakier route in character design.

On the technical side, the core of the game has been built using reactive principles and asynchronous coding, which is something our programmer wanted to lean into heavily for quite a while. Hopefully he grabs the time to write a longer tech post about it ๐Ÿ˜

We've also tried out FMOD and while it's quite simple to use in-engine, the WebGL specific things turned out to be quite a challenge, we still have a lot of work there to polish the audio systems. We made 3 really awesome tracks you can hear in-game and after some editing we can't wait to share the fuller OST-style versions.

And now with the release done, and the first hotfix live, we will finally sleep! Give Wizard's Way Out a spin, tell us what you think in the comments and follow us here on Itch as well as on Twitter @KikimoraGames.
